The Ministry of Education will continue to monitor overuse of salary units, middle management allowances (MMA) and senior management allowances (SMA) in 2011. Schools allocate these payments each pay period according to its staffing entitlement. As these payments form part of a teacher's salary, they must be paid on a per pay period basis and not as a lump sum payment at the end of a fixed term agreement.
Units and management allowances are not part of banking staffing arrangements. If you overuse salary units, MMA or SMA, we will deduct the value of the overuse from future operation grant instalments. We will let you know before we do this.
For more information, please read the rules on allocating salary units, MMA and SMA in chapter two of the Funding Staffing and Allowances Handbook.
